Instrument Element Echo

The Lego Mindstorm Robot (codename: “T1″ ) has been tested outside in an open field. The Instrument Element of the robot was on a web-server, running on a linux. The test web-page was accessed using an iPhone.

Though the robot doesn’t perform well on grass or rough terrain because of physical limitations, but the instrument element architecture for the device is working quite well. Watch:

We are please to welcome Alimur and Krzysztof as new members of the project. Alimur is a master student specialized in embedded systems while Krzysztof has just finished his bachelor in computer science.

In the next months they will implements Web Based APIs for the Lego Mindstorm. They both are at their first experience in Opensource and soon we will see them around in our mailing lists and this blog.

as Francesco introduced me this is my first post on the blog. It’s a great pleasure for me to start this open-source adventure with all of you!

I’ve just started to commit on the instrument element repository under the xwchplugin subproject directory.

Roughly the main objective of this subproject is to enable the possibility to connect to the volunteer computing middleware through a well defined interface (in our case the middleware considered will be xtremwebch [possibly some other in the future?]) in order to submit some computational intensive jobs to the volunteer computing middleware and get back the results instead of computing it locally which could be too much time-consuming or impossible.

At the moment you can find some ideas and all the input parameters needed to access this service in the repository.

I’m trying to abstract the connection to the volunteer computing middleware (class Connection), a generic application (class Application), its modules (class Module) and the interface to access the volunteer computing service (interface IVCMiddleware).

If you are curious, interested or have some tips to give me, feel free to drop me a message and/or email.

I am pleased to welcome Mark in our teem. He is a student at the faculty of informatics and he is at the beginning of his second year.
He is currently doing a summer internship at the faculty and this is his first “real experience” in Opensource.  He is interested in Workflow and Volunteer Computing. Soon we will see him around in our mailing lists and this blog. 

The Website have been updated with a new project overview and links to our new SVN and Mailing lists. The task have been closed in our tracker but any comment is more than welcome!

In the past days we encounter a few problems with our project enlistment in Ohloh. The problems appear to be solved now. I kindly ask you to keep an eye on our enlistment and if you see something wrong drop us a line!

We just finished to move the code in the SVN repository; as we agree in our mail lists, from now on the development will continue there. The CVS will stay there for a wile and then, we will officially close it. Please inform us if you experience any trouble.

We have created 2 project mailing lists: one for the development and one for the support. As we agree in our forums we will use these mail lists as the preferred communication channel. So everyboddy is encouraged to subscribe!
